I spoke to my opposite number, Mr. Scarlett, at the Foreign Office about the attached letter from Sir Carton de Wiart. He agreed that this was a matter for the Foreign Office and not for the Colonial Office, but said that, if you saw no objection, he would be very grateful if your Private Secretary could let him have a copy of the letter for future reference. I have also told Sir Carton de Wiart that our view is as above, and he will not expect any further reply. He was very grateful for being rung up about it so quickly.
